Carla admits being hesitant at first to accept the project
Carla Abellana will be displaying a mean streak for the first time in the Kapuso afternoon series “Stolen Life.”
While Beauty Gonzalez’s character is the main kontrabida in the show, the story delves into astral projection where Beauty and Carla’s respective characters will switch bodies.
Carla plays the role of Lucy while Beauty portrays Farrah in the show.
Hence, Carla had to do scenes where she acted like the kontrabida of the show, a first in her career.
During the recent media conference for “Stolen Life” at Pin-Wei Restaurant, Seda Hotel, FreebieMNL asked Carla what made her say yes to accept the role.
She first says, “Naku, sobrang kinabahan po ako.”
But since the character and the story was explained well by the show’s creative consultant, Kit Villanueva-Zapata, she was convinced to accept the offer.
Carla continues, “I appreciate her, I want to thank her kasi talagang she took the time to explain the role very well.
“Ay grabe po, aaminin ko, I was hesitant at first kasi hindi ko alam if kaya ko kasi mahirap na nga yung isa nang role, dalawa pang role. And then, of course, it’s my first time na ganung kasalbaheng character po.
“So, na-explain po niyang mabuti and lalo po akong na-excite and of course, working with such an amazing cast. Looking forward pa po ako noon working with Direk Jerry Sineneng for the first time.
“So yun yung talagang, ‘Okay, let’s do this,’ yung ganyan. Challenging siya pero dapat ready tayo mag-accept ng challenges.”
In fact, Carla calls the whole process of playing kontrabida “cathartic.”
She says, “Though mahirap po siya, may times na parang cathartic, in fairness po.
“It’s a good release or way para mai-release yung naipong energy, although pagod lang po talaga.
“Mahirap pero enjoy kasi I guess first time ko rin po, I just went with it. Inaral ko po talaga yung character ni Farrah, lagi ko ino-observe. May times naman po na enjoyable pag-portray ng bad Lucy.”

Carla and Beauty also shared during the press conference how it’s like to play each other’s characters, especially in scenes where they have to both act as Lucy and Farrah.
But as the taping for the show was fast-paced, she and Beauty also had to be quick in internalizing each other’s characters.
Carla quips, “May switch na po kami sa brain! Yun ang secret dito, yung GMA po, nilagyan ng switch yung brain namin bago kami mag-taping kasi ganun kabilis kailangang mag-switch ng characters!”
She further explains, “Ang hirap pong hindi mabaliw doon sa pag-switch po ng characters. As much as we want to have more time to prepare, realistically, wala po talaga.
“Talagang in this scene, ikaw si Lucy; the next scene, ikaw si Farrah. So, ang hirap po but eventually, nakasanayan na po namin.
“And then, may times, nakakalimutan po namin pero nandiyan naman po yung production to remind us yung presence. Mahirap po siya but yes, kailangan ready ka mag-switch ng characters any moment.”
Aside from Carla and Beauty, “Stolen Life” also headlines Gabby Concepcion, Celia Rodriguez, Divine Aucina, Lovely Rivero, and Anjo Damiles. It airs at 3:20 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime.
