Carla Abellana says: “Sabi ko po kay Beauty, huwag niyang galingan masyado!”
Carla Abellana and Beauty Gonzalez both admit that it is not easy portraying their new roles in the new GMA Afternoon Prime series “Stolen Life.”
The series, which premiered on November 13, presents the story of cousins Lucy (Carla) and Farrah (Beauty), who would switch bodies because of astral projection as they fall in love with one man, Darius (Gabby Concepcion).
To pull off the story, Carla and Beauty had to play both characters who are complete opposites.
During the press conference of “Stolen Life” on November 9 at SEDA Hotel, Carla did not mince words in saying that the series is one of the hardest projects she had in her career.
She says, “Napakahirap, pinakamahirap po sa mga nagawa ko. Ang hirap na po mag-portray ng isang role sa isang teledrama tulad ng ‘Stolen Life’, dalawa pa po?
“Actually, hindi lang po dalawa, apat pa po yan kasi meron pang astral Lucy, astral Farrah. So, napakahirap. Hindi ko isu-sugarcoat yan, totoo lang.
“Pero thankfully, andiyan ang mga katulad ni Beauty Gonzalez, napakahusay ng mga writers, napakapulido po ni Direk Jerry Lopez Sineneng, so hindi naman po sa kumbaga nawawala yung hirap ng pag-portray pero, at least, meron pong guide, meron po kaming way para kahit papaano, mas mapagaan.”

Beauty, on the other hand, says that she prepared twice and studied each of the characters individually.
“I prepared twice. I think of it as an individual. I do my research with the help of the director and the writer.
“It’s very interesting to see Carla play two different persons. Ang saya saya, sobrang nakakatuwa to see her in two different attitudes and characters, and si Gabby dito, siya yung anchor namin, siya yung ginugulo namin, siya yung ‘Dear Heart’ namin.”
Portraying each other’s characters
Aside from switching roles and playing each other’s characters, there are also times when Beauty and Carla have to mirror and do each other’s scenes.
Of this, they have to do a take of each other’s scenes, making sure that they match the same intensity of acting.
Carla says about this, “Sabi ko po kay Beauty, huwag niyang galingan masyado! Napakahirap, grabe. May times, sinasabi ko, ‘Beauty, huwag mo masyado galingan!’”
Beauty quips, “Ako, I love teasing her, kung saan-saan ko nilalagay yung mga kamay ko!”
Carla adds, “Si Beauty rin, may mga times na nahihirapan siya sa umiiyak-iyak [na eksena] but ako, ino-observe ko si Beauty and pinapanood ko po sa monitor yung mga eksena po niya para kahit papaano, hindi naman po sa ma-memorize…
“Hindi naman po namin sobrang aral na aral pero we observe each other a lot, nire-review po namin yung mga eksena sa monitor para may guide.”
Meanwhile, Beauty says about Carla, “Everytime she cries, I always say, ‘Bakit mo kamukha si Mama Mary! Teka lang muna, paano ba ‘yan?!’”
It is already a trademark for GMA Afternoon Prime shows to showcase catfights and intense confrontation scenes with its characters.
Such is expected in Carla and Beauty’s characters in “Stolen Life.”
Laughing, Carla says, “Ay, hindi po mabibilang sa sobrang dami! Hindi lang po catfights, naging stuntwomen po kami dito ni Beauty Gonzalez kaya abangan niyo po!
“Kasi hindi lang yan drama, hindi lang may pagka-fantasy, talagang action po itong ‘Stolen Life!’ Pero abangan niyo po kasi maloloka kayo sa mga ganung intense na eksena.”

Beauty, on the other hand, has been used to doing catfight scenes in her other afternoon shows such as ABS-CBN’s “Pusong Ligaw” and “Kadenang Ginto.”
She remains enjoying doing these scenes in “Stolen Life.”
“It’s fun, I love doing it and if kaya ng katawan ko, why not? And, of course, alam ko naman, kapag hindi na kaya, hindi rin ako magbo-volunteer.
“But it’s fun to do a lot of things aside from acting, may action din! So, it’s fun!”
“Stolen Life” airs every 3:20 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime. Directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng, the series also stars Celia Rodriguez, Divine Aucina, Lovely Rivero, and Anjo Damiles.
