“Naku-cute-an lang ako na nagagalit siya na nauna ako,” says Carlo Aquino about Charlie Dizon
Real-life couple Carlo Aquino and Charlie Dizon are teaming up for the first time in the upcoming movie by Black Sheep and ANIMA Studios, “Third World Romance.”
In the film, Carlo and Charlie play a couple striving to work hard to make their lives better in the Philippines.
But just as the film’s plot is also interesting, there are also fun and colorful stories that happened on the set while shooting “Third World Romance,” such as this one time when Carlo and Charlie had a little argument!
It was Carlo who brought this up during the media conference of the film on August 3, 2023 at Kanto Freestyle, Marikina.
Carlo shares, “Siguro yung ATM scene natin sa labas, natapos na yung shot ko ‘tapos humingi ka ng insert na parang yung keypad yata at saka yung receipt.
“So, ako, tapos na, pack-up na ako. Umalis na ako [sa eksena], nag-ready na ako para makauwi.
“‘Tapos pagbalik niya (Charlie), kakatapos lang niya, masama yung tingin sa akin! Kasi nauna na ako mag-ready pauwi.
“Sabi ko, ‘Bakit? Bakit ka nagagalit?‘ [Sagot niya], ‘Ah, ganon. Nauna ka na?‘”

Apparently, it was a little case of misunderstanding.
Carlo explained to Charlie then, “Hindi, kasi nilagay ko na yung mga gamit mo sa kotse mo tapos ito na yung damit mo pamalit.”
He then says of Charlie, “Naku-cute-an lang ako na nagagalit siya na nauna ako. Akala niya sarili ko lang iniisip ko.”
Charlie then adds, “Late ko na nalaman, e! So, uminit muna yung ulo ko bago ko nalaman. So, siyempre nakakahiya. Sorry! Hahaha! Sorry nga!”

Carlo and Charlie’s leading lady-leading man relationship
During the Q&A, FreebieMNL asked Charlie how does he find Carlo as a leading man.
Her answer is somewhat related to the story they shared earlier.
Charlie says, “Actually, kahit hindi as a leading man, maalaga pa rin si Carlo. As in sa lahat ng mahal niya sa buhay, kahit yung mga RM niya, handler niya, kahit sino mga kasama niya, aalagaan niya talaga.”
In fact, the “Fan Girl” actress has another anecdote to share on how Carlo is caring towards her.
“May isang beses na may confrontation scene ako ‘tapos ang taas kasi noong eksena. E, parang dulong eksena na yun.
“So, medyo pagod pagod na ako ‘tapos nagulat ako, nagpadala siya ng soft drinks kasi kapag ganun, alam niya na yun yung nagpapa-energize sa akin.
“So, nagpadala siya ng ganun kahit wala siya doon sa set tapos siguro, yung mga bonding moments namin sa tent kasi may game kami na dinownload. So, everytime na halimabwa nag-aantay kami for next sequence, yun yung nilalaro namin. ‘Tapos mahilig siya manlibre ng food doon sa mga kasama namin.”
As for Carlo, he admires how he and Charlie clicked not only in their personal lives but also in how they worked on their characters.
He says of Charlie, “Mapagbigay sa mga eksena. Hindi ako nahihirapan kasi hindi ako nanghihingi na halimbawa, mag-throw lines. Anytime, pwede kong hingin sa kanya.
“Maalaga din at saka di ba, nasa tent, bigla na lang ako magda-dialogue, sasagot siya.”
“Third World Romance” is directed by Dwein Ruedas Baltazar and will serve as the closing film of Cinemalaya to be shown in PICC this August 12.
Its regular cinema screening starts on August 16, 2023.
