How Did Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Barbie Imperial Develop Their Characters’ Chemistry In “3 Days 2 Nights In Poblacion?”

Jasmine and Barbie have developed a “mag-ate” chemistry after the film

Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Barbie Imperial’s tandem as lead stars shows a well-established chemistry on-screen.

Such a claim evidently manifests in how they played their roles as best friends (and enemies) in RC Delos Reyes’s movie, “3 Days 2 Nights In Poblacion.”

However, before they were able to build this cordial connection, it was initially challenging to build rapport between the two mainly because it was their first project together.

Direk RC reveals during the influencers’ screening on March 5, 2024 at VIP Cinema, Century City Mall in Makati.

Speaking in front of select press and content creators, Direk RC says that there were several motivations he implemented to work on the gap.

He begins, “Medyo challenging kasi sa totoong buhay, hindi naman talaga sila mag-best friends and both na nanggagaling sa magkaibang, kumbaga, magkaibang network ‘no? And first time namin silang mapagsama.”

Direk RC recalls being thorough with giving context and backgrounds—especially for Jasmine who he says is very particular when it comes to playing her character.

He says, “So ‘yon, binigyan ko sila ng backstory and also, movie references na pwede nilang pagkunan na naka-genre din. Kumbaga kwento din ng best friends, kumbaga pwede sila dun kumuha ng mga character traits.”

The context guides that Direk RC handed over eventually helped the two actresses develop some sort of “inspiration,” slowly establishing their connection during the set.

As Direk RC puts it, “It’s a reference na pwede nilang [gamitin], which helped a lot. And pagdating sa set naman, they’re both on one.

More than that, Direk RC says that they made sure Jasmine and Barbie were stationed in the same area so they could get to know each other deeper.

How do these motivations turn out for Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Barbie Imperial?

There were a lot of considerations to bear in mind during the early stages of taping—and another challenge that Direk RC encountered was Jasmine and Barbie’s contrasting undertakings and lifestyles.

More than their age gap—Jasmine being 29 and Barbie at 25—the director says that Jasmine wasn’t very outgoing compared with Barbie.

He shares, “Medyo challenging siya in a sense because magkaiba din sila ng edad. So, magkaiba sila ng edad, so kaya medyo tinitimpla namin.

“Pero siguro nakatulong din yung characters dahil si Jasmine, hindi naman talaga siya very ma-Poblacion, ma-party and ganyan as compared to Barbie na talagang mas medyo…is out there, going to parties and bars, you know?”

Despite these differences, the two actresses were still able to overcome the gaps—even taking their newfound friendship outside work as “mag-ate.”

As RC puts it, “Naging magkaibigan naman sila tapos after the film para silang mag-ate. Actually, parang yun yung mas naging chemistry nila sa set.

Mag-ate talaga sila kumbaga they both learn from each other. Jasmine learns also from Barbie, as well as Barbie learns from Jasmine. Kumbaga may natututunan sila to each other.

“Not just personal but also with their craft because you know, I feel Jasmine is an excellent actress—can impart also pagdating sa part na yun.”

“3 Days 2 Nights In Poblacion”

Teaming up for a new facet of comedy-drama, Jasmine and Barbie respectively takes the role of Gabbi and Charlie who engage in all sorts of fun and mischief in Makati’s red light district—Poblacion.

The film also headlines JM De Guzman who plays as Javi. JM plays a once nerdy high school guy who eventually turned into a heartthrob—causing fights and misunderstandings between Gabbi and Charlie.

As they embark on a full-packed and chaotic night life in the area, each of them were given epiphanies and lessons on friendship, heartbreak, sacrifices, and second chances.

“3 Days 2 Nights In Poblacion” produced by Black Cap Pictures is currently showing in cinemas.
