“When we get there,” Julia teases
Actress Julia Barretto has left the questions unanswered over her possible portrayal of Bea Alonzo’s unfilled role in the film “Special Memory.”
At her media conference for the movie “Will You Be My Ex?” on Monday, June 5, the 26-year-old actress chose not to confirm nor deny if she will banner the film with Alden Richards.
“You know, I don’t know if I can comment on that yet. But we can talk about it when we get there,” says Julia. She also emphasizes that she is open to discuss the matter at length shall the news come official in the future.
While Julia refuses to comment on the news, her portrayal for the film was initially confirmed already by Viva Inc. President and CEO Vincent del Rosario III.
“Dating Alden-Bea, tapos I think nag-issue naman ng statement kami and ang GMA na magpapahinga yata muna si Bea. So, Julia na,” Vincent announces.
The president also released further details including the production date, which would start by the end of July or August.
Reiterating Julia’s sentiment over the matter, Vincent assures, “Well, excited siya. Hindi lang dito pati ‘yung movie nila with Aga Muhlach na ‘Forgetting.’”
Why is there a recasting?
Bea and Alden were initially announced as the lead characters for the movie. However, on May 2, 2023, actress Bea Alonzo has “respectfully begged off” from continuing the project “due to her full schedule this year.”
More so, the 35-year-old actress has contractual obligations with GMA Network, making her unavailable for additional projects. She is currently taping for the teleserye “Love Before Sunrise” with Dennis Trillo.
Such a decision has left Alden without an on-screen tandem. But while that is the case, Bea confirmed through host Boy Abunda that she has no problem for her role to be recast.

“Special Memory” is the Philippine adaptation of the more popular South Korean film “A Moment To Remember.”
It was in 2021 when it was first given a nod for a remake, with director Nuel Naval set to helm the film.
It follows the story of a couple whose love and relationship are challenged by a rare form of Alzheimer’s disease. The original film was headlined by South Korean actors Son Ye-jin and Jung Woo-sung.
