Kokey’s Comeback Shocks Netizens With Buffed Physique

Will Kokey be a part of Netflix’s “Rebel Moon?”

The Philippines’ extraterrestrial icon, Kokey, returns!

This surprised netizens with his relatively lean physique for the promotion of a Netflix’s sci-fi show.

26 years since Kokey was first known in a 1997 hit film of the same name, the country’s very own E.T. has surprised many with a comeback no one would ever expect.

Released by streaming platform Netflix for Zack Snyder’s sci-fi show, “Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire,” the promo features a buffed Kokey who is more chiseled now compared to his compact appearance before.

In the trailer, the old Kokey from the TV version is initially flashed. After being inspired by some scenes from the “Rebel Moon,” he then decides to work out to build some muscles.

A series of scenes flash to show Kokey evolve from a soft-demeanored alien to a muscley creature—eventually, making it as one of the characters for the Netflix show.

As of writing, the promo video titled “Ok Ka Ba Kokey” has gained over 2.2 million views on YouTube.

Netizens react to Kokey’s new appearance

The return of the beloved local icon has gained much attention from the netizens, as many drew humor out of Kokey’s new appearance.

One user says that Kokey is now in his borta era. The term refers to any male with obvious muscles built from working out.

Another user asks why is Kokey suddenly macho, while another account says that even Kokey can grow some muscles.

While there’s plenty of comments about his new physique, there are also users who speculate that it might be a hint that the alien will be a part of the “Rebel Moon.”

“Rebel Moon” follows the story of Kora—a former soldier who tries to get rid of her dark past by living as a farmer on a space satellite called The Veldt. While doing so, she is also slowly building an army as fortification to a tyrannical regime called The Motherworld.

“Kokey” was first introduced in 1997 as a film. 10 years later, it was then reimagined into a Kapamilya series bannered by Joshua Cadelina and Julia Barretto.

In 2010, a sequel to the TV series was produced headlined by Toni Gonzaga and Vhong Navarro.
