Say goodbye to gossips and speculations about the Queen of All Media’s love life!
In a surprising turn of events, actress and TV host Kris Aquino happily shared on social media that she is now engaged to former Department of Interior and Local Governance Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento.
In a touching video posted on Instagram on Saturday, October 24, Kris finally acknowledged her relationship with Mel for the first time.
The 55-second clip starts off with a montage of photos showcasing several heart-shaped bouquets filled with pink flowers while Savage Garden’s “I Knew I Loved You” plays in the background. It then shifts to the newly engaged couple, both tongue-tied and beaming from ear to ear as Kris goads Mel into sharing the good news to viewers.
In her caption, Kris acknowledged her long absence from the digital world and shared that her revelation coincided with a very important occasion.
“Aamin ako I’m only 95 pounds now,” shared the evidently slimmer Kris. “This pandemic and many stressful events that happened since mid-August really caused my weight to drop & my health to suffer.”
“And it’s been exactly 4 months since we so unexpectedly lost our brother. Sure ako, ayaw nya talagang iwanan si ‘bunso’ na walang magbabantay at magaalaga na siguradong pinagkakatiwalaan nya,” she added. Kris is the youngest daughter of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the younger sister of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who passed away last June.
She also thanked the late president for the opportunity to meet Mel, who served his term as DILG Secretary as part of the latter’s cabinet. “We would never have met nor reconnected had it not been for Noy.”
“You must have known how broken I’d be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, but [who] made it possible for me to smile and laugh again,” she added.
Nonetheless, the famed celebrity, who has managed until this moment to keep her relationship status a secret, stayed all smiles as she thanked her “best friend.”
“To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for, as Bimb said, loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man,” Kris wrote. “It’s unreal how much more calm & peaceful I feel now that you’re here.”
Kris ended her caption with an endearing message: “As much as I am proud to be an Aquino, looking forward na kong maging Sarmiento.”
Fellow celebrities flocked under Kris’ post to congratulate the newly engaged couple, including Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, K Brosas, Pokwang, Mariel Padilla, Angel Locsin, and Kris’ close friend, Kim Chiu.
“Wow!!!!! I was smiling the whole video!!!! so much love and happiness ate. you deserve all the happiness in the world ate. God really answers prayers in his own perfect time love you ate,” Kim fondly wrote along with several heart emojis and a kissing emoji at the end.
For the longest time, Kris has successfully dodged intrigues romantically linking her to several high-profile celebrities, including Herbert Bautista and Willie Revillame. It wasn’t until last August when the rumor mill finally hit a stop when the socialite finally revealed her relationship to Sarmiento.
