“We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected,” Apple said in a statement to CNN.

The company shared that these overheating concerns do not pose safety risks and will not have a lasting impact on the affected iPhone models. Apple also emphasized that iPhones have built-in safeguards to manage elevated component temperatures.

According to Apple, several factors are contributing to the increased heat generation in their next-generation iPhone lineup, leading to user complaints since the phones’ release on September 22.

Apple acknowledged that overheating can be triggered by certain third-party apps that have been recently updated, causing them to strain the device’s resources. “We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out,” Apple reassured.

Additionally, Apple identified a bug in iOS 17 affecting some users and plans to release a software update to rectify the problem. But, Apple hasn’t provided a timeline for the fix’s availability.

Apple also clarified that iPhones may feel warmer during the initial days after setup or device restoration due to increased background activity.

Apple’s support page explains that “These conditions are normal, and your device will return to a regular temperature when the process is complete or when you finish your activity.al”

These updates come amid strong demand for the iPhone 15 series. Analysts reported pre-order figures surpassing expectations, particularly for premium models like the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

While Apple’s recent sales figures showed a decline in iPhone revenue for the third consecutive quarter, industry experts estimate that around 250 million iPhones have not been upgraded in over four years.
