Players will get to explore Wakanda in an open-world type experience
EA has announced that a Black Panther game is currently in development. The title is being created by Cliffhanger Games, a new triple-A studio based in Seattle, in collaboration with Marvel Games. The upcoming game is a single-player, story-driven, third-person action-adventure experience.
Cliffhanger stated in a press release, “Our mission is to build an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther.”
Cliffhanger is led by Kevin Stephens, formerly of Monolith Productions. the studio currently working on a “Wonder Woman” game. The team consists of seasoned professionals who have worked on renowned titles such as “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,” “God of War,” “Halo Infinite,” and “Call of Duty,” among others. The studio is actively hiring and assembling its team.
As the untitled “Black Panther” project is still in the early stages of development, it might take a few years before its release.
Kevin expressed the studio’s dedication to delivering fans an authentic and definitive “Black Panther” experience. They plan on granting players more agency and control over their narrative than ever before in a story-driven video game.
He stated, “Wakanda is a rich SuperHero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”
While Black Panther has appeared as a playable character in various Marvel games, this will be the first solo game to feature him as the protagonist.
It is worth noting that another upcoming game will also allow players to assume the Black Panther mantle. In 2022, Skydance New Media, led by Amy Hennig, announced their plans for a Marvel game set during World War II, featuring characters like Captain America and Black Panther Azzuri, the grandfather of T’Challa, along with other Wakandan and Howling Commando members.
