Apple Announces The First-Ever 15-Inch MacBook Air At #WWDC23

The new MacBook Air’s starting price will be PHP 82,990 when it becomes available in the Philippines

Apple has recently unveiled its highly anticipated 15-inch MacBook Air during its recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 event.

Powered by Apple’s M2 chip, the MacBook Air 15-inch boasts an eight-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine.

Apple takes pride in the MacBook Air’s sleek design. It measures 11.5mm thick, making it the thinnest 15-inch laptop. Weighing slightly over three pounds, it offers exceptional portability. The laptop features two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, a MagSafe charging connector, and a headphone jack. It comes in midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver color options.

The MacBook Air’s 15.3-inch LED-backlit IPS screen features slim bezels, delivering 500 nits of brightness and a resolution of 2880 x 1864.

It has a 1080p FaceTime HD webcam, advanced beamforming algorithms powering three microphones, and six speakers, including two tweeters and two sets of force-canceling woofers. With these, the laptop provides immersive audiovisual experiences with spatial audio and Dolby Atmos support.

Apple claims the new MacBook Air offers up to 12 times faster than Intel MacBook Air models and has an impressive battery life of up to 18 hours.

It is also 25% brighter, 40% thinner, twice as fast, and half a pound lighter than a leading 15-inch Intel Core i7 PC laptop.

In line with previous MacBook Air models, the 15-inch variant retains its fanless design. It will run on macOS Ventura, followed by an upgrade to macOS Sonoma later this year. Memory options are configurable up to 24GB, with storage capacities reaching up to 2TB.

With the introduction of the 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple fills the midrange gap in its lineup. The new laptop will cater to users seeking a larger screen without the added cost and computational power of the 14-inch and 16-inch Pro.

Starting at $1,299 ($1,199 for education), the new MacBook Air will be available this June in the US. It has yet to be announced when it will be available in the Philippines, but its cost starts at PHP82,990.
