Kapuso Network Rebrands GMA Telebabad To GMA Prime; Unveils 2024 Offerings

GMA Public Affairs to bring two stars from different networks in one movie!

GMA-7’s primetime block enters a new era this 2024.

From being called GMA Telebabad, the Kapuso primetime block has been rebranded to GMA Prime starting on January 1, 2024.

This marks the end of the GMA Telebabad era, which started in 2002 when GMA-7 finally went full steam in producing in-house teleseryes on primetime, which they only began in 2001 via “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin.”

Among the unforgettable shows produced under GMA Telebabad are “Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga (2002),” “Mulawin (2004),” “Encantadia (2005),” “Darna (2005),” “Bakekang (2006),” “Impostora (2007),” “MariMar (2007),” “Amaya (2011),” “My Husband’s Lover (2013),” “First Yaya (2021),” “Legal Wives (2021),” “Lolong (2022),” “Maria Clara at Ibarra (2022),” and “Voltes V: Legacy (2023).”

GMA Prime offerings

GMA Prime’s launch welcomes two new offerings on January 15, 2023: “Love. Die. Repeat.” and “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko.”

“Love. Die. Repeat,” which should have been aired in 2022, marks the comeback of Jennylyn Mercado on TV with Xian Lim as her leading man.

The story centers on Angela (Jennylyn), who lost her husband (Xian) in an accident. She then realizes she is stuck in a time loop that repeats the death of her husband over and over again. She then embarks on a journey to save her husband or be doomed to experience more pain every day.

The series started taping in 2021 for a 2022 release. However, as they were about to wrap up their taping, Jennylyn found out that she was pregnant with her child with Dennis Trillo.

“Asawa Ng Asawa Ko” is headlined by Jasmine Curtis Smith and Rayver Cruz with Liezel Lopez. Originally intended for the GMA Afternoon Prime block, the series tells the story of Cristy (Jasmine), who everyone thought had died during a rebel attack. One day, she returns to her family only to find out that her husband has already married someone else.

Asawa ng Asawa Ko

Marian Rivera marks her primetime comeback this year with “My Guardian Alien,” a teleserye about an alien (Marian) who lands on Earth and becomes part of a loving family. Will she return to her territory, or has she finally found her home?

Marian’s team-up with Gabby Concepcion finally pushes through in the series. In 2020, they were supposed to be paired in “First Yaya” but Marian decided to back out during the pandemic, as she decided to put her family first.

Bea Alonzo, Gabbi Garcia, and Carla Abellana are set to work together in “Widows’ War,” which serves as a follow-up to the success of GMA-7’s murder mystery shows, “Widows’ Web (2022)” and “Royal Blood (2023).” It tells the struggles of a widow who mourns the death of her husband while facing allegations of murder.

Widows War

The period drama “Pulang Araw,” which is headlined by Sparkle stars Alden Richards, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco, and Barbie Forteza, is also part of the line-up.

The story set in World War II revolves around the intertwining story of four individuals who face challenges involving country, family, friends, and love.

Lastly, GMA Prime is also set to air a series titled “A Lifetime With You,” which centers on love found on a penal farm.

GMA Afternoon Prime offerings

GMA Afternoon Prime, the Kapuso network’s afternoon block, is also set to continue the tradition of giving entertaining soap operas in the afternoon slot.

The Kapuso top-rating afternoon drama “Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap,” starring Jillian Ward and Carmina Villarroel, continues with its new chapter. Klea Pineda enters the series as Dina Bonnevie’s long-lost daughter.

GMA Afternoon Prime’s first new offering in 2024 is “Makiling,” produced by GMA Public Affairs. Starring Elle Villanueva and Derrick Monasterio, the series offers a tale of revenge and love, with also a strong message about respecting and caring for the environment.

Kate Valdez, Kyline Alcantara, Michael Sager, Paul Salas, and Coney Reyes headline the adaptation of the K-Drama series “Shining Inheritance.” It is the first time that GMA-7 will air a Korean adaptation in the afternoon slot.

Jo Berry is also set to make her drama comeback as she assumes the title role in “Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law,” which tells the story of a feisty rookie lawyer.

Another title set to premiere on GMA Afternoon Prime is “Mommy Dearest,” which asks the difficult question: is a parent worth forgiving if she puts her child in danger?

Another is “A Mother’s Tale,” which tells the story of a mother forced to work as a full-time nanny to provide for the needs of her family. This causes her real daughter to resent her, while the child she takes care of grows attached to her more than to her real mom.

“A Family Like Us” is about a “perfect family” whose deep, dark secrets are to be revealed after the matriarch’s dementia threatens to reveal things that will destroy her family.

“Forever Young” tells the story of a charming public servant trapped in a girl’s body as she is diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency syndrome.

“For The Love of Kobe,” which tells a story of forgiveness set in the backdrop of the world of basketball, is about a CEO who is on the brink of losing her most beloved grandson. The only person who can help her is the father of the child whose life she had ruined years ago.

Weekend offerings and movies

GMA-7 is also set to bring back some of the well-loved sitcoms and competitions for its weekend block.

First is Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s sitcom, “Jose and Maria’s Bonggang Villa 2.0.”

Senator Bong Revilla and Beauty Gonzalez are set to reprise their roles in the second season of the action-comedy series “Walang Matigas Na Pulis Sa Matinik Na Misis.”

Other shows making a comeback are “Running Man Philippines” and “The Clash.”

Moreover, after the success of “The Voice Generations” on GMA, a new series from “The Voice” franchise will launch in 2024.

GMA Public Affairs is also set to bring more movies this 2024.

Sci-fi with a dash of romance and drama will be showcased in “Version Two.” The story explores both the uplifting and heartbreaking nature of memories. Helmed by director Irene Emma Villamor, two stars from different home networks are set to be paired for the first time in the movie.

Another film coming in 2024 is “Penthouse 77,” directed by Derick Cabrido. The psychological thriller confronts the horrors of homelessness in a city filled with skyscrapers and shanties.
